Today's painting is for an original acrylic on masonite. I call this painting "Silver Lining". It did look bleak last week after all of the rain we had in Iowa. There were "lakes" in the fields and farmers were getting nervous. But what a difference this week has made. It has been gorgeous out, a lot of lakes are gone and farmers are getting back into the fields...much to the relief of everyone!

I love sunset/sunrises, I am mesmerized by each one I see. So you can see why it is a challege for me to try and paint them. The inspiration for this painting came from a trip I took last week. We have had sooo much rain that there is a lot of standing water in the fields. It may be very frustrating for farmers but I was amazed by the darken atmosphere and bright spots of color as the puddles reflected the beautiful colors of the sunset.
Today's painting is titled "The New Calf". I really like how this painting turned out. It is a bit on the tonalist side due to the colors I used and gives strong visual impact using a simple minimalist composition. I put an angus cow and calf in the painting for focal point and scale.

I really like today's posting. I captured the sparkle on the water (which was hard for me to do) with texture and several layers of glazing. I also added a couple of figures standing by the water.
